REYKJANES AREA - GRINDAVIK
Visitors to Grindavík can hardly fail to be impressed with the skill of local seamen as they negotiate the tight run into the town's harbour. In terms of facilities, Grindavík also has much to offer, including a new outdoor swimming pool, campsite, guesthouses, a choice of fine restaurants, and horse rental. Grindavík also marks an important crossroads on any visit to Reykjanes. To the north lie the warm, soothing waters, hotel, restaurant and bath houses of the incomparable Blue Lagoon, while to the east the road follows the North Atlantic breakers across tortured lava fields towards the hot springs of Krísuvík.

Grindavík is a first and all a fishing industry town and one of the largest amounts of fish is manufacture here. The harbour has been recently renovated and has very good access for the vessels. In earlier times the loss of fishing boats in this area was severe due to the bad surfs especially in the times when fishing boats where open boats. The old church here in Grindavik now serves as a pre-school. The new church was consecrated in 1982. dd
