There is a lush oasis in the highland south of Eyjafjörður which it is a real pleasure to visit. This is Laugafell, a 2 hours' drive from Eyjafjörður along a mountain road. At Laugafell, the miraculous power of the warm water is readily observed, for without its steady flow from the ground this spot would be just like the surrounding desert. There are mountain cabins at Laugafell and a pool built of natural stone for bathing.
