Akureyri is lovely, calm and pretty during the day but those that thirst for a busy nightlife, have much to choose from, especially Friday and Saturday evenings, when the pubs, clubs and bars are bursting with festivities. Each place has their own special ambiance, so all age groups should find something to their liking. There are two famous places near the old harbour; Oddvitinn and Við Pollinn, both housed in very old buildings of Akuryeri. Another rather famous place among Icelanders is Sjallinn and visitors are welcome to find out for themselves what it is famous for! Of course, there are other nightlife joints too and note that many day-time cafés, turn into pubs at night with an excellent array of music to liven the scene.
