SPORTS AND OUTDOORS IN REYKJAVIK

While in Reykjavik why not hike up Mt. Esja. It is relatively easy to climb to even those of moderate athleticism, the peak of Esja offers incredible views of southwest Iceland. There’s nothing like ascending the mountain during the summer, as the sun dangles over the horizon throughout the light night.

By far the most popular outdoor activity in Iceland is swimming or at least visiting a swimming pool. The pools are geothermally heated, so even on a very cold winter’s day, a trip to the pool is comfortable. At the swimming pools you can take the pulse of the nation, as the hot pots are where Icelanders trade opinons and talk about the latest news and headlines. You can even meet your favorit politician at the pool.

If the pool’s not your thing, but you’d still like to take the plunge, head on down to Nauthólsvík, the thermal beach located in a secluded cove in Reykjavík.

There are several golf courses in and around the Reykjavik area. Playing golf in the midnight sun during the summer time is something not to be missed. Check the golf section on our site to find a golf course you would like to try.
