In 1929 Hólmjárn J. Hólmjárnsson started the ale- and soda manufacturing company Þór ehf. He built a great brewery at Rauðarárstígur in 1930 and now the Redriver steakhouse has been set up in the main building. During the war years strong beer was brewed for the occupation forces in this building.
