The second release from Mínus, "Jesus Christ Bobby" represents the amazing progress that, such a young band have undertaken. Formed in 1999 just a few weeks prior to the annual Icelandic "Battle of the bands", sheer hard work and practice took these 5 members through the competition winning miles ahead of anyone else. This, a huge rung on the ladder of Icelandic band status, took Mínus out of obscurity and onto the regular gig circuit in Reykjavik.
Their fast and furious gigs that took place in the following months guaranteed them as obvious leaders in the Icelandic hardcore scene, resulting in prestigious support slots in '99 for both Fugazi and Sick Of It All in Reykjavik.
Mínus' debut release " Hey Johnny" outsold all expectations of an Icelandic hardcore band, and received much praise from the Icelandic media, including a rave review on Loudnet.com quoting the record to be " ...completely sick Icelandic noisecore". The success of "Hey Johnny" led to outside involvement and encouragement from Icelandic electronosie-soundscaoper Curver, who both featured on and produced "Jesus Christ Bobby"; and guest vocals from dedicated supporter, Einar Örn of The Sugarcubes.
The reaction to Jesus Christ Bobby was more than deserved, resulting in unbelievable support from magazines such as Kerrang!, Rocksound, Metal Hammer and Terroriser, (5 K´ = Kerrang and 8 out of 10 in Metal Hammer) and an US record deal with Victory Records. One reporter warning "Mínus had managed to make a no gimmicks album, while at the same time coming up with the perfect soundtrack to smashing your house up." and undoubtedly many houses were.
Witnesses of the Kerrang! sponsored tour with Mínus, Charger and Matter, and Roskilde festival both in 2002, will vouch that this band's sound is so tight and full, so explosive and dynamic that it's hard to believe Mínus have not been playing together for at least a decade. A must see live, Mínus will not disappoint any dedicated follower of music, whether it be hardcore, metal, noise, punk and anything else in between.
More than just a band, Mínus represent and uphold principles of accessibility to music, playing gigs without age-restrictions and releasing other local bands’ material on their self-run label MSK. What appears to be completely guided by the "for-the-kids" attitude, their live gigs are so energetic and loud; feisty and yet compelling that they are over even before they seem to have begun, leaving you completely exhausted but writhing for more.
Mínus are currently recording their third album, due for UK release 28 April release. Mínus will be doing a headline tour in UK throughout April. They will be sharing a stage with Hell is For Heroes in Iceland 13 March and touring Europe with Swedish band mates, Stairland. Their new material will annihilate stereos across the lands and Mínus will be destroying Europe and the US with their live performances in the coming months.
